John - First Week of Full of Production


Howdy, it's John. I am writing this to give a more detailed update on what Isa and I are doing now that we have been greenlit. 

Description:

This game will be about the player trying to find their new roomate for the apartment in a town they just moved into. The player interacts with the other town members by mentioning conflicts in the town, people in the town, locations in the town, or a combination of two elements. They will use these elements to absolve the conflicts (empathy puzzles) and gain more clues on where your roommate is.

What We Have:

  • A fully functional (but janky) dialogue system
  • Great concept art
  • A working proof of basic interaction
  • Preliminary UI system and design
  • Narrative structure
  • Main character design
  • Preliminary character portraits
  • Our first puzzle
  • A systematic way to add more characters into the narrative web and overall game structure

What I Need to Do:

  • Setup and test the Conflict System
    • a system which helps players keep track of conflicts between characters (a fancy quest system)
  • Puzzle Progress System
    • a system which keeps track of the progress the player makes
      • makes the characters say the right things and stand in the right spots
    • it will probably be linked to the conflict system and the game manager in someway
  • Write out the entire first empathy puzzle and playtest it
  • Redesign UI for Map
    • large town wide map (area names are here)
    • area specific maps (character names are here)
  • Design UI of Conflicts Page
  • Create an event bus system to help game performance
  • A simple camera script
  • Create a more detailed narrative web

Our Goal for January 10th:

  • Have all the stuff I listed for myself done and be able to be tested.
  • Having more icons and a location for us to test with.

Long Term Goals:

  • New build and dev log every week.
  • A new empathy puzzle at the most every two weeks.

I know this seems like a lot, and it certainly looks daunting to me but as long as I stay focused and go bit by bit I will make it out alive. See you on the other side!
